John L. Barone also works with not-for-profit conservation organizations, municipalities and individuals with regard to advocacy campaigns and/or litigation involving matters governed by the provisions of the New York State Environmental Conservation Law, the New York State Environmental Quality Review Act ("SEQRA") and federal regulations such as the Federal Clean Water Act and the National Environmental Policy Act ("NEPA"). Apart from Joan Iacono’s practice, John L. Barone is a director of Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, Inc. (“TGF”), a not-for-profit organization founded for the purpose of promoting stream and river conservation. As a director, and a member of the organization’s conservation committee, he is responsible for advising the organization as to the environmental impacts of various developments and issues that are affecting the waterways of New York, and whether the group should become an activist in such matters.

Along with various other issues that he assists TGF with on a monthly basis, John L. Barone has been very involved with two major matters on behalf of TGF, which are the following:

• In the Matter of Application of Crossroads Ventures, LLC, for the Belleayre Resort at Catskill Park – This matter is currently proceeding through the NYS SEQRA administrative process. TGF and other coalition members reached an Agreement in Principle with the developer in 2007, successfully preserving much of the environment encompassing the Belleayre region
• The Stockbridge-Munsee Casino at the Neversink River, Town of Thompson, Sullivan County, NY – In January 2008, U.S. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne made a final administrative decision to reject pending Catskill Casino applications, thereby protecting the revered Neversink River, which continues to attract thousands of anglers, hikers and other outdoor enthusiasts every year.
